The ADFEST 2023 Young Lotus Workshop has been completed by 30 young creatives, representing 15 cities, including Bangkok, Colombo, Dhaka, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Perth, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo and for the first time ever, Vientiane.
Vinit Suraphongchai, Chairman of ADFEST welcomed all the participants to ADFEST before the start of their two-day workshop. He explained, “Young Lotus Workshop is at the heart of ADFEST’s vision to be a source of learning and inspiration for the next generation of creatives in Asia Pacific and the Middle East. It perfectly reflects our desire to give back to our industry and inspire the next generation of creative leaders.”
This year Young Lotus Workshop was hosted by Ogilvy Asia-Pacific and led by this year’s Young Lotus Co-Chairman, Reed Collins, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy Asia-Pacific and Kent Wertime, Co-CEO, Ogilvy Asia- Pacific.
The workshop’s theme was “Ogilvy X Borderless Creativity” and provided a full immersion into Ogilvy’s Borderless Creativity philosophy for participating creatives, as well as offering them the chance to think outside the box and beyond silos as part of a real-world client brief. With just 24 hours to make the deadline, the brief was to come up with an idea for a local beverage.
Andy Chu, Executive Creative Director, Ogilvy Thailand, is one of Ogilvy’s group of mentors. He commented, “The workshop will be a unique opportunity for Young Lotus teams not only to get an insider’s perspective of Ogilvy’s point of view on Borderless Creativity, but also to learn a few tips and tricks of the trade that each of the speakers would be sharing based on their personal experiences.
“What makes those valuable insights even more special is that they can’t be found in any textbook, nor would they be taught in any other conventional advertising classes, but they become very handy or even give an unfair advantage that could separate young creatives from their competition.”

They all brought their A-game and we hope the delegates at ADFEST enjoyed the selected finalists and winners work.”
When asked why the winners were selected and what did they do right, Reed explained, “There was a lot of discussion on the “winningest” idea. It basically came down to how tightly [the team] answered the brief but also how big they took [the idea].
